Soshi Matsunobe (b. 1988 Kumamoto) lives and works in Shiga.
He studied under Kyoto Saga University of Art and recipient of Grant for Overseas Research from The Pola Art Foundation.
Matsunobe’s conceptual art engages with elusive subjects such as “lines,” “shadows,” “the unconscious,” and “background,” and is characterized by variability, expansiveness, and multiplicity. His practice involves reexamining abstract elements that are unconsciously overlooked in everyday life, and making visible―through minimalist means―the perceptual foundations upon which they are constructed.
His work has been seen at many exhibitions, including: “Furniture and Drawer” (A-lab, Hyogo), “Woven Knot” (gallery chosun, Seoul), “not a house” (MBL Architectes, Paris), “VOCA 2024” (The Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo), “Soft Territory” (Shiga Museum of Art, Shiga).
