Soshi Matsunobe creates works that reexamine abstract phenomena embedded in everyday life—things we often perceive unconsciously—and makes visible the perceptual structures upon which they are formed through a minimalist approach.
This work is the artist's first ceramic piece, created through a project by Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio.
Titled Gaheki (Cliff Wall), the work was made using reclaimed clay that had long remained unused in a pottery studio in Shigaraki. Conceived around the idea of "returning clay to the landscape," it draws inspiration from the organic forms of clouds, stones, and plants to create an ambiguous form that is at once reminiscent of a cliff-like landscape and a wall-like structure.
